My Favourite Crystals #2

For part two in my ongoing series, I dive into Opal, which, for me, is one of the most beautiful crystals of all. I love the way it gleams whether in sunlight or in dark and enjoy it’s milky-white hue and hidden depths. The image in the photo is of the Opal I keep in my home on its matching Opal stand.

Opal has always been one my favourite crystals because it captures the magic of light, colour and transformation. Each opal is completely unique, glowing with flashes of blue, green, pink and gold that shift beautifully depending on the time of day and where it is placed in the home.. To me, this ever-changing display symbolises creativity, emotional depth, and the beauty of transformation — the very essence of why opal is so special.

Opal’s spiritual properties

Opal has a powerful spiritual meaning, possesses healing energy, and inspires creativity, emotional balance and transformation.

Spiritually, Opal is known as a stone of inspiration and emotional healing. It amplifies energy, reflecting our inner feelings and helping us understand ourselves more deeply. When I meditate with Opal or keep it close, I feel more in tune with my intuition and creative flow. Its luminous energy encourages me to express my true self and embrace my emotions with honesty and compassion.

A stone revered throughout history

Opal has long been revered as a symbol of hope, purity and transformation. Ancient Romans believed Opal represented love and good fortune, calling it the “Queen of Gems” because it displayed the colours of all other gemstones. In ancient Greece, Opal was thought to grant the power of prophecy and protect its wearer from harm.

During the Middle Ages, it was considered a stone of truth and faith, enhancing spiritual awareness and inner vision. Across many cultures, Opal’s shifting colours have symbolised emotional healing, inspiration and personal growth. Today, crystal enthusiasts continue to value Opal for its metaphysical properties — promoting creativity, balance, and positive energy. With its rich history and timeless allure, Opal remains one of the most spiritually meaningful crystals in the world.

Adding a little magic into your day

Opal’s eternally shifting colours remind me that change is part of life’s natural rhythm, and that beauty often comes from movement and growth. It also radiates a mysterious energy that adds an ethereal aspect to life in general, as if the stone were created by fairies or other magical beings, and I think we could all use a little magical thinking in our daily lives.

For me, Opal represents light, renewal, and infinite possibility — a perfect reflection (and reminder) of life’s colourful, ever-changing journey.
